A Shadow

A Shadow

Though you’re no longer mine
And we’re far apart;
It’s still you I pine
Ever since the start.

The love we once shared
I still cling to tightly.
Even though it make me sad
I won’t give it up so lightly.

One day I found out
That you love me still.
My mind was having doubts
But I couldn’t hide what I feel.

Will we be together again
And walk in our meadow?
Or will I go insane,
Continuing loving a shadow?

Letter To Aunt

Letter to Aunt

Dear Aunty,

Thank you so much for that lovely dress.
The frills and laces - my oh my! mommy asked me to
wirte that!
- they're so pretty!
And they itch a great deal against my skin!

Mommy thinks I look like an angel.
But I think I look like a pink hippopotamus,
With the stupid underwire, that makes
The ugly skirt flares up. Not to mention the horrid wings!

She takes a picture of me, in the form
Of the pink hippopotamus
, and she showed it
To everyone in the vicinity! How embarassing!
Everyone says I look so mature,

Though in my opinion, it's downright
Childish. Not to mention, totally sick.
So,
Dear Aunty, thank you once again, and I look forward NOT!
To such a gift in the future.

Most UNloving,
Your Niece

[J]

NOTES:
This poem is probably what most kids think - when they got some ugly gifts from some relatives. Too polite to turn down the geeky gift, but too unwilling to accept, the strikes represent the resentment and the unspoken feelings.

Diary At Home

Diary At Home

Today the Lady in White visited me.
She carried a bottle of blue sweets,
And she gave me three.
Later in the day, she came again,
And gave me a flower
Which she puts in my hair.
At night she came to me with a light;
Sang me a lullaby and
Kissed me goodnight.

(But the thoughts,they haunt me...

Where am i? What did I do?
Why can't I leave this little room?...

The Sun rises in the West;
The sky is green; the fields are blue.
Meadows are dead - they are brown...

Or are they? No... No...

The Sun rises in the East;
The fields are green; the sky is blue.
But the meadows... the meadows...

They're dead for me -
I've never touched them.
Not when I'm here, in the Asylum,

Trapped.
Dead.
A victim of my own brain.

Of my own insanity...)

[J]

NOTES:
I wrote this poem in school, after studying and feeling under the weather for 2 weeks. It is a haunting little piece, inspired by a book title '101 Poems to Keep One Sane' and Margaret Atwood's haunting poem 'This is a Picture of Me'.

Two People

Two People

Two very different people
Started off as friends.
Slowly as time passed
Their friendship transcends.
One lost a love,
The other lived alone,
Through thick and thin
They we never on their own,
Could she love again?
Would he let her in?
Though all their denial
It could be clearly seen.
Would these two people be together
As feelings developed further?
Only time will tell
If they would be lovers.

N.B. This is written based on 2 characters from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. I've gotten a little encouragement from a yahoo! group which i joined to write and i'm sharing it here. Enjoy!

All Because

All Because

I can see you standing
Right in front of me vividly
I can still hear the sweet nothings
That you whispered into my ears
I can smell you as the wind
Races past me and to beyond
I can feel your fingers
Interlocked in mine
I can sense your love
As you looked into my eyes
I can feel your breath
On my face as we kissed
But when I wake up
You slowly fade away
Silence encloses on me
And the wind howls eerily
I no longer feel the warmth
Just the bitter cold and loneliness
All because... you’re gone

A Mother's Love

A Mother's Love
Dedicated to my loving mother - Sylvia

As a child I falter,
But she was there to bear me up.
In her mouth a sad sad smile,
Which spoke of the pain she felt.
She wiped away my pain and tears,
And kissed away the wounds and fears.
She held my hand and didn't let go.
And walked me through childhood,
watching me grow.

(Now 19 years have hence passed...)

Yet, she still does all those in the past.
Though my wounds are a differnt kind,
I know she wishes to heal the scars.
She tells me not to be afraid,
If I need anyone, she's there ahead.
Though my childhood has now gone,
I know my mother will not.
And she will stay with me as
I continue to grow...

You

You

I remember you once said
That you’ll love me always
The times we shared together
Kept playing in my head
But then you left me
To face this world alone
I forced myself to move on
And start life anew
However you were never gone
I couldn’t bring myself
To love another again
For you took away with you
A part of my broken heart
And left behind the piece
That loves only one - You

Letter to a Young Man - You

Letter to a Young Man - You

Dear You,

The time has probably come.
Though I do no know who or where you are,
I know you are out there, somewhere.
And one day I know, I will find You.

I hope that you will love me,
For who I am, and not other things.
I'm not one of those girls who are popular;
Certainly not a Goddess like Venus.

I'm do not possess a voluptous body -
I'm more like a hanger - sharp and angular.
I'm not tall - more vertically challenged -
So please don't mind if you have to stoop.

(I'll still hear what you say,
and what you don't say.)

If I ever cry, please don't beat yourself up;
I'm crying not because you hurt me;
But my tears are really tears of anguish -
And they'll have nothing to do with you.

Please know that you don't have to spend
And shower me with plenty of presents.
I'm not a material girl who wants,
But a simple plain Jane who enjoys your love.

By the way, don't feel exasperated with me;
After all, it had been a long time since I loved.
I'm really scared and nervous -
Believe me: a lot of things will be my first.

Understand that there is nothing to hide;
You can tell me everything -
There's no need for lies!
(And in return I'll be honest, I promise!)

I hope I'm not asking too much of you
In this letter to a stranger named You.
You'll read this one day, I know.
And understand where each of us is coming from.

Until then, I will patiently wait,
For your arrival one of these days.
So for now, remember my name and who I am,
And that I'm just a plain girl name Jess.

[J]

NOTES:
This is a little poem I've been playing around with since last year. :) Through it, I found myself healing from my hurt and past relationship. It was initially written in the form of prose.

Forever

Forever

Forever I will remember you
Forever I will care.
Forever I'll think of
All those times we shared.
I tried to forget you
But I couldn't, wouldn’t.
Although my heart is broken,
In the shattered pieces,
You are still there.
To keep holding on hurts so,
But to let you go is impossible.
Will my torn heart ever mend?
Will forever ever end?

The Ironic Story of Love

The Ironic Story of Love

Isn't is strange how a four letter word,
Can change the perceptions of the world?
It bears like a sword - but not any other,
In its edges of two and double.
It can change the people, the way they think,
The way they act and how they believe.

It can bring a strong man to his knees;
And strengthen the weakest - or so it seems!
It can lighten up one's day,
Yet can darkens the bright skyway!
A grown and mature can be childish;
A young simpleton can become deep.

So how powerful this emotion can be,
To make the people not what they seem:
Love can make hearts soar and fly;
But Love can cut us deeply, inside...

[J]

Memories

Memories

Days come by and they go,
When will the pain stop?
I never will know.
If only you knew how i feel
The love i have for you is real.
The hurt and pain in the nights i cried,
Only you can make it right.
Even though we're far apart,
You're still here,
Lingering in my heart.
Too many things remind me of you,
I wonder if this happens to you too.
I've tried very hard to let you go,
But i found my heart won't let me so.
Memories are all that i have now,
Of the days that we once shared.
Every night i quietly pray,
That one day we'll be together again.

Remember Me...

Sonnet I
Remember me, Remember you...

When the end of end is finally here,
I pray to you, that you will remember:
The memories that we share and treasure,
And not forgetting the times together.
Should you choose to forget these memories,
Please know that I would not hate you for it.
For I know some things are simply painful,
That one should want to forget everything.

As such I will ask of one thing from you:
To remember me on some days, please do!
Not so, that remembering will torment;
But let it be a dream that one slept through.
Or else you can choose to forget it all;
And know in your heart, I'll remember you.

[J]

NOTES:
This poem is inspired by Shakespeare and a few other Romantic poets - Keats, Blake, Frost and Wordsworth. I was reading some of their poems when this piece formed in my mind. It took me many months to plan and my first piece of the same title was actually in an open form. But I digress and re-write it again.

It is written in closed form - a sonnet. It's one of the hardest poems I've written bcos I tried to keep strictly to the rigid format. It's not a fantastic piece but I'm really proud of this achievement. Enjoy!

Love Is...

Love Is...

Love is when you wake up, he is already on your mind.
Love is when you lost your heart, he is all that you canfind.
Love is when you want to be the one to dry his eyes.
Love is when you see the truth in every one of his lies.
Love is when you want to listen to all his whims and woes.
Love is when you want him to take care everywhere he goes.
Love is when he calls you, your heart goes a flutter.
Love is when you see him, "I love you..." you silently stutter.
Love is when you tell the world that you love him so.
Love is when you've told the world, but he doesn't know.
Love is when you know you'll still love him when he's lost his hair.
Love is when your eyes light up when you see him there.
Love is also when you hear your heart break when he held hands with her.
Love is also when you crumbled as you hear them say that it will last forever.
Love is also when you cry inside yet smile outside when they say hi to you.
Love is also when you held your breath and said, "How do you do?"
Love is also when you let him go, you know he is happy now.
Love is also when you know you'll get over him somehow.
Love is also when his happiness is what matters to you.
Love is also when you let him love her, and not love you true.
Love is when you'll still love him...and still, he'll never know.
Love is when you'll swallow the pain and slowly let go.

Yet love is a funny thing

Love is when you smile when you hear that it's him and her no more.
Love is when you hear he sent her through the door.
Love is when you try to bump into him again.
Love is when he'll say hi to you and there is no more pain.
Love is suddenly real love when he says he loves you too.
Love is suddenly real love when his life revolves around you.
Love is suddenly real love when he's always loved you but he didn't dare.
Love is suddenly real love when he's always loved you but thought you didn't care.
Love is suddenly real love when now it's all coming true.
Love is suddenly real love when you love him and he loves you.
Love is suddenly real love when now your life is nearly complete.
Love is suddenly real love when everyday, it's him you meet.
Love is suddenly real love when your friends accept him too.
Love is suddenly real love when you can have time for them and him and you.

Falling...

Falling...

Look inside the windows of my soul,
And see your reflection in me.

Lower your hands and feel the touch
Of the skin caressing skin.

Open up the heart so freezingly cold,
And feel the warmth and glow.

Reach out your hands to support me -
I'm falling inside, deeply...

Feelings

Happiness will never go after you, for it is you who have to make the choice if you want to be happy or not. I have felt so much pain, confusion, heart break, feelings that has brought me to the lowest emotional point of my life, but thinking back at it now, if I am to relive my life again, I'll never take out those parts. For it is with those feelings that has brought me to what I have and feel now.
